The Local-First Manifesto

Why we built a productivity tool that refuses to use the cloud.

The SaaS Trap

Today's productivity landscape is dominated by Cloud Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). While convenient, it comes with a steep hidden cost: you don't own your data. When you put your life's work into a cloud app, you are renting access to your own thoughts. If the company goes bankrupt, changes its pricing, or gets hacked, you lose. We believe this is fundamentally broken.

Data Sovereignty

FlowDesk was built on the principle of Data Sovereignty. 100% of your data lives on your local hard drive in an open SQLite database format. There is no telemetry, no forced cloud sync, and no tracking. Your private notes stay private.

Speed and Reliability

Because there are no network requests to a server in Virginia, everything in FlowDesk happens instantly. There are no loading spinners when you switch projects. And best of all, you can do your best work on an airplane, in a cabin, or during an internet outage.

Collaboration without Compromise

We believe you shouldn't have to sacrifice collaboration just to keep your data local. That's why we engineered our peer-to-peer Local Workspace technology. You can collaborate with your team in the same room, at the speed of your local Wi-Fi, without a single byte ever touching the public internet.
